Why does my cat chatter when it hears me playing my guitar?

I heard that cats do this chattering thing when they see a bird outside the window, even saw a video of it.

But my cat does it when I play my guitar?

Why?

maybe your cat doesn’t like the way your guitar sounds? my sister’s dog growls and barks when we play drums on rock band. haha and stops as soon as we stop.

It might be something to do with the pitch. Is it when you play something particular?

One of our cat starts chattering when I pull off a length of sellotape, and if I sneeze, she meows in a high pitched voice.

Their hearing is far superior to ours, so I guess certain noises may trigger a certain reaction in them.

animals (esspecially smaller ones) hear sounds and pitches, a lot more distinctly and LOUDLY than we do.

Is it an electric guitar? Electric guitars pick up and emit signals and frequencies other than just string vibrations. For example, strats (or any guitar with a single coil pickup) are known to emit the “fifty cycle hum.” Its a noise caused by the electricity from your wall at a frequency of 50Hz. This type of hum can be cancelled by pairing the single coil with another one (by flicking the switch), or by playing a guitar with humbuckers.

the fifty cycle hum is just one type of noise an electric guitar emits, guitars are known to pick up frequencies from floroucent light tubes to cell phones… etc

A huge ammount of that noise cant be heard by the human ear, and its out of range. Which means your cat is hearing something that you aren’t! and those super-high or super-low frequencies are probably whats driving your cat insane.

Animals can hear sounds that are out of range for humans, they can sense earthquakes coming for miles just by listening to those ultra-high frequencies, whereas we rely on seismographs and whatknots.

If its an acoustic/nylon guitar that you play and its driving your cat nuts… then you probably need to improvise a little more. :P JK

Just keep your cat away while you play your guitar.
